“Eden’s Keepers is the interesting and beautiful story of two people, Nancy Tennant and Humphrey Waterfield, and two gardens, Hill Pasture in Essex and Le Clos du Peyronnet in Menton, France. An interesting and touching story.”
“The Gardens at Rousham deal with a single garden. The artist Francis Hamel has lived at Rousham for twenty five years and has painted views of the garden through the seasons over these years. His paintings are accommpanied by essays from some of England’s best gardener designers. It my opinion Rousham is a magical place; the greatest example of design genius in England and the book does justice to the gardens!”
“Brilliant English Gardens is a large-format hardback volume covering twenty seven of the very best of English gardens, each with a single page of description followed by up to ten pages of Clive Nichols’ photographs printed full-page size – brilliant, beautiful, sumptuous!”

Jaspreet Sherrill speaks to photojournalist and author Kate Holt about her new book, which delves into the history of one of England’s oldest inhabited moated houses, Sutton Coldfield’s New Hall.
‘We may think we invented complex modern relationships but Eden's Keepers, detailing the 40-year ‘miraculous friendship’ between an elegant older woman and a younger gay man, is original and inspiring. Set against the backdrop of the 20th century and two world wars, taking in everything from the Bloomsbury Set to the founding of the WI, this is biography at its most compelling. Not only did Nancy Tennant and Humphrey Waterfield create a series of beautiful gardens together (their own version of earthly paradise), they pioneered a new way of living. There are many ways to love - without jealousy and fear - and their refusal to be judged by society enriches all of us today. Surely a film or TV series must be in the works!’

Natasha Poliszczuk includes Eden’s Keepers in her guide for best books to gift this Christmas season.
'If garden history is more your cup of tea (preferably drunk in the shade of the spreading oak as the cuckoo calls overhead), then Eden's Keepers is a fascinating story of paradise lost, found - and gardens created'
